CLUB SERVICE COMMITTEE

PURPOSE OF CLUB
SERVICE: To foster the successful administration of the Rotary Club.
I have involved
all members of the club, to assist on the sub-committees.
CLASSIFICATIONS
SUB-COMMITTEE
Duties:
 | To prepare - a classification survey of the community |
 | To compile - a roster of all classifications |
 | To review - existing classifications represented in the club |
 | To council the Board - regarding any classification problems |
Function of the
committee: - To promote membership development, by making known unfilled
classifications.
 | We will prepare our own survey i.e. Telephone directory, Chamber of
Commerce. |
 | We will compile a roster of filled and unfilled classifications, and make
this known to the club, by means of a typed list to be given to all members. The
list will be headed by the stipulated strengths and characteristics of a club
according to the diversity of the classifications of the members. |
MEMBERSHIP AND
MEMBERSHIP DEVELOPMENT SUB-COMMITTEE
Duties
 | To consider proposals for membership |
 | To report decisions on all applications to the Board |
 | We will ensure that the members have a positive attitude towards
membership growth, remembering to uphold the Rotary qualities required in
candidates. |
 | We will strive to introduce many young men and women with fresh ideas and
views of service. |
 | We will constantly remind members of the benefits of growth i.e.
 | By writing ideas in our bulletin |
 | By assigning a member to contact individual prospects |
 | By asking all members to keep committee informed about business, schools

ROTARY
INFORMATION SUB-COMMITTEE
Duties
 | To inform prospective members about the privileges and responsibilities
of membership in a Rotary Club |
 | To inform all members about the history, objects and activities of Rotary
at all levels |
 | To oversee orientation of all new members in their 1st year |
 | Awareness Month. |
 | We will plan information programmes in cooperation with the club
Programme Committee I. e. A panel discussion on Rotary |
 | A round table discussion on service |
 | Talks on Rotary history by various members |
 | A special programme on the anniversary of Rotary on 23rd February |
 | Quizzes |
 | Audio visual programmes |
This committee
will also work closely with the club bulletin committee, the programme committee
and the public relations committee.
ATTENDANCE
SUB-COMMITTEE
Duties
 | To keep record of club attendance, and post to district officer |
 | To acquaint club members with attendance requirements |
 | To study the causes of poor attendance |
 | To urge members to attend club, district and international meetings |
 | To urge the making up of meetings |
 | To practice various ways of improving and
stimulating attendance i.e.
 | Assign members to as many duties as they are able to fulfil |
 | Recognise members with very good attendance record e.g. a tie |
 | Making the programme and meetings as interesting as possible |
 | Be alert to absentee-prone members - and send message, place phone call
or reminder etc |

CLUB BULLETIN
SUB -COMMITTEE
Duties
 | To oversee the regular publication of a bulletin once a month. |
 | We will mention:
 | upcoming club programme |
 | relate highlights of meetings |
 | promote fellowship |
 | inform members about Rotary |
 | report news of club, members, and Rotary |
 | There will be close cooperation
between this committee and other club committees. |
 | 30 copies to be printed a month. Ron will do the Printing |

MAGAZINE
SUB-COMMITTEE
Duties
 | To stimulate interest in The Rotarian |
 | To stimulate interest in Rotary Africa |
 | We aim to accomplish this by: -
 | observing Magazine Month in April |
 | sending news items and photos to the Rotary Africa editor |
|
 | We must send membership fees to Rotary Africa and The Rotarian, once the
club is chartered, and see that each member receives their copy regularly. |
 | We will file copies of all issues for reference. |
 | We will issue extra copies, in a family of two club members, to all
doctors' rooms and the library |
 | We will encourage the use of the magazine to benefit the club by -
 | having a committee member give periodic reviews from the contents to
stimulate ideas |
 | holding club forums on provocative articles |
 | base quiz programmes on feature articles |

FELLOWSHIP
ACTIVITIES SUB-COMMITTEE
Duties
 | To promote acquaintance and friendship among members |
 | To encourage members participation in Rotary Service, Recreational and
social events |
 | We will endeavour to create camaraderie at the weekly meetings as a focal
point of all fellowship activities, and try to stimulate and improve fellowship
at all levels i.e. |
 | Will remember members at birthdays, anniversaries, illnesses, deaths,
achievements etc |
 | Will use the bulletin to publish news about all events etc, and have a
brief biography of members |
 | Have members introduce new members and visitors |
 | Have a roster of club members for greeting members and guests at the door |
 | Opportunities to fellowship with neighbouring clubs |
 | Will have a monthly fellowship in members homes |
 | Will encourage possible walks, picnics, braai's, etc |
 | Will also in Rotary Information encourage the use of friendship exchanges
etc |
 | We held a combined fellowship with the Ficksburg Rotary club on 17th
October. We invited them to join us at the Ruytenbeeks home. 18 of their members
attended and we had 29 members present. Ron welcomed all present, especially the
visitors, expressing the wish that we hope that this will be the beginning of
many happy fellowships together, and working together for the good of the needs
in our area, as well as for Rotary. |

Meetings are held

reports to be given to the club by Chairpersons of Committees. |

Information Meeting. One of committee members to lead. |

PUBLIC RELATIONS
SUB COMMITTEE
Duties
 | To tell the Rotary story to as many audiences as possible.
 | Purpose: - Public Relations improves Rotarians ability to provide
service. |
 | Reason: - To demonstrate Rotaries contribution to the community, and thus
gain support. |

 | Will endeavour to:-

club service - publicize club projects in the local press |

informed of important club or Rotary events |

of Garden Party at Cherry Festival to Rotary Africa. |

 | Community co-operative bank project - High banking costs prohibit low
wage earners opening a bank account |
 | Help facilitate transition of old sandstone school in McCabe Street (Boithumelo
High/Old HTS) into community/tourist centre |
 | Rotary sponsored / written tourist map / info booklet of Ficksburg and
surroundings |
 | Roadside picnic stops, refurbishment maintenance and regular clean-up. |
 | Signage and beautification at both entrances to Ficksburg (need taxi stop
and passenger rest site - the prison did a tidy-up recently and trust this will
be a regular occurrence. |
 | Meqheleng park development (tree planting, landscaping to prevent further
erosion, rubbish removal, playground equipment, etc) |
 | Develop public spaces e.g. beautification/safe-making of stream running
through Ficksburg, parks, town square, green spaces. Start placing rubbish bins and regularly empty them. |
 | Imperani hiking trail development - demarcate, draw maps, maintain
(possible project for school group(s). |
ENVIRONMENTAL
PROTECTION SUB-COMMITTEE
 | Black wattle (full funding available from DWAF's Working for Water
Programme). This will provide enough firewood for the location poor that
they can be more productive and not chop down other beneficial trees. |
 | Waste recycling and better planning at the dump (signage, patrolling,
fines, etc.) |
 | Garden was composting |
 | Soil erosion protection |
 | Fire control measures (fire-break burning programme) |
 | Birding / wildlife / environmental club at/for schools |
PARTNERS IN
SERVICE SUB-COMMITTEE
 | Advertise a public forum / contact person where anyone can report any
environmental degrading activity or suggest environmental/tourist/societal
enhancing ideas. |

VOCATION AT WORK

 | Encourage members to bring an employee or colleague to a formal meeting. This could generate discussion on employer/employee or co-worker issued
e.g. conflict resolution. This could also boost membership. |
 | Job creation and small business development. Work in conjunction with the invader eradication programme proposed by
the Community Service Committee. |
 | Invite guest speakers from non-represented professions/businesses to
address a formal meeting. |
 | Provide each member with a copy of the "Declaration of Rotarians in
Businesses and Professions". |
 | Schedule a meeting to discuss the declaration at the beginning of the
year to discuss progress/failures. |
 | Encourage members to participate in "International Vocational
Contact Groups" (IVCG) |
 | Promote and distribute the "4-way Test". Each member could have a stamp made and stamp all outgoing
correspondence. |
VOCATIONAL

 | Celebrate "Vocation Month" during October |
 | Invite members to contribute to the "Classification
