Selling Raffle Tickets

This is not a project, but I would like to share an idea which was
introduced by one of our Rotarians a few years ago.
All clubs must have the problem of selling tickets to a draw in order
to collect funds for a needy cause. We had a big resistance to the selling
of tickets by our Rotarians and we have had a few draws in the past by
giving tickets to service organisations, Churches, schools etc. The
motivating reward to the organisation is that they keep between 50-80% of
the cost of the ticket for themselves. In this way we are providing a
totally risk free method of raising funds for various organisations by
printing the tickets and providing the prizes.
Our Rotarians are asked to sell sufficient tickets to cover the cost of
the printing, prizes and an evening's cost for the draw. We draw 100
tickets and these ticket holders are then invited to attend the final draw
function, we also invite the top three organisations (based on number of
tickets sold) to the draw and obviously have press coverage.
This system will only work if the draw is offering some good prizes
(e.g. Return tickets to any destination in the world for 2, boat trips and
holidays)
Our present draw which we are now selling tickets for is a 3 night boat
trip for 2 which we paid for one and got one free. Other prizes we obtain
from various sponsors.
I hope that this idea will be of benefit to those clubs who had the
same resistance to the selling of 'Draw' tickets
