SCHOLARSHIPS COMMITTEE
AMBASSADORIAL SCHOLARSHIPSFirst Report of Britt Coles, Ambassadorial Scholar 2007-2008 (248kb pdf) APPLICATIONS MUST REACH A ROTARY CLUB IN DISTRICT 9320 BY 7 MAY 2004 AT THE LATESTAs RI defines District 9320 as a low income Rotary District, we are entitled to nominate one candidate for an Ambassadorial Scholarship. This nominee will compete on a worldwide basis for a limited number of scholarships made available by The Rotary Foundation. About 20 are awarded annually and our district nominations have been successful for the past three years. Applicants should preferably be graduates with good academic records, have a good knowledge of their country and have a record of service to the community. In addition to studying, they are expected to be ambassadors for their country by becoming involved in welfare work in their overseas community.
Applicants should be resident in the area covered by Rotary District 9320 (an area stretching more or less from Jeffreys Bay to East London and then northwards to Kimberley, Potchefstroom, the Free State and Lesotho.) As this is a scholarship, very high academic standards are expected and candidates should at least be in possession of a degree obtained with a number of distinctions. As this is an Ambassadorial Scholarship, the recipient is expected to act as an ambassador for South Africa and should thus be knowledgeable about this country. He or she will be expected to address various groups in the country of study and in this country. As with all Rotary awards, a successful candidate will have a record of practical service to the community.
