Polio Eradication Challenge - The Good Work Goes On
The District 9320 fundraising campaign
was formally launched at the District Conference held in Kimberley on
9th and 10th August 2002 with two events:
- A training seminar for Area coordinators held on Friday 9 August.
- A Presentation of the program on Saturday 10 August.
These two events set the scene for an all out effort to raise
R 640 000 in District 9320 by 2005. We encourage
clubs to donate cash and make pledges to total this amount so that we can play
our part in assisting to finally defeat the ravages of the wild polio virus
within the timeframe set by Rotary International.
The success of the Polio Program since it was initiated by Rotary
International in 1988 has been phenomenal. To have succeeded in reducing
the incidence of polio by 99% worldwide is nothing but fantastic.
This has been the result of the effort of each and every Rotarian over the last
14 years.
But, in order to finally achieve our goal, one last enormous effort has to be
made. We have to kill off the virus that still exists
in 10 endemic countries, seven of which are in Africa.
The 2002/2003 District Governor, Mel Smethurst, gave his full support to a
commitment that District 9320 will meet it's target. Your cooperation to support
him will be greatly appreciated.
